To get ready for summer, I am using a self-tanner. But my elbows and knees are now darker than the rest of my body! How do I smooth out my skin tone?
Dead skin cells tend to build up in the skin folds around major joints. Unfortunately, this can result in an uneven tan, as self-tanner sticks more firmly to the dead skin. So, before applying, exfoliate these areas with a washcloth or body scrub (we like Freeman Feeling Beautiful Scrubs, $4 each, freemanbeauty.com). Then, for an even glow, rub the tanner into your other body parts first, using an especially light touch as you work your way toward the elbows and knees.
