There's no denying it, we could talk to the "Call Me Maybe" hit-maker all day long! We caught up with Carly Rae Jepsen to chat about her partnership with güd by Burt's Bees (it smells insanely good, by the way!), and before long, we were chatting about all of her best-kept beauty secrets, the style icons she obsesses over, and what it's really like on the road.
Real Beauty: Why did you decide to work with güd by Burt's Bees?
Carly Rae Jepsen: It seemed like a natural partnership because I grew up with Burt's Bees products. My mom was always putting them in my Christmas stocking! I just love that they're all-natural, they're animal friendly, and even their containers are recycled. You feel good about buying them, you know the product itself is goodand it smells delicious!
RB: What is your favorite product of the new Red Ruby Groovy collection?
CRJ: Everything is great, but I do like the body moisturizer the best.
RB: Okay, let's talk about your recent major hair change. How did you make the decision to go red? That's huge!
CRJ: It is! It was inspired originally by a request from Disney to be Ariel in the remake of the "Part of Your World" music video. They're doing it for the Diamond Edition release of The Little Mermaid. So, I dyed it red and we all kind of loved it and I just decided to keep it.
RB: Is there any beauty trend you would never try?
CRJ: Im sure there's a ton! I'm pretty terrified of tattoos and piercings. Not that I don't think they look incredible on some peoplea lot of my best girlfriends have thembut I am just deathly afraid of needles. So, any excuse to not get one, I will take.
RB: You're on the road a lot! Is there a specific beauty product or skincare product that you always have to have with you?
CRJ: I always keep a mascara in my bag. On off days, I usually like to go with almost no makeup, but I always love to have mascara. Like, that's my one 'if I was on a desert island' makeup item that I'd have.
RB: Do you have any beauty tips or tricks that you swear by?
CRJ: My little beauty trick that I love is the shellac nails. It's not that huge of a secret but for a guitar player, they're a girl's best friend. Regular nail polish always chips and I am a girl who likes to wear polish, so this is my favorite thing.
RB: How about any secrets for staying healthy when you're on a crazy tour schedule?
CRJ: I'm insanely activeI blame my cousins for that actually! My hockey player cousin is on tour with me right now and it's just like old times. We play soccer after with the band boys. During the days that we have time off, we'll rent canoes and go check out the local spots. We really have fun doing outdoorsy things. I'm not so good about going to the gym or running on a treadmill, but I love it if it's fun and doesn't feel like exercise.
RB: Is there anyone you look to for style inspiration?
CRJ: I really love Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's style. I think I'm especially attracted to it because they're the same stature as me. So I feel like, if they can pull something off, I can pull something off! And I also really admire Kate Bosworth for how classy she is.
RB: How would you describe your personal style versus your on-stage style?
CRJ: I'm definitely a much more extreme version of myself [on stage]. Everything is accentuated. But when it's my day to day, I don't want to stand out all the time. I quite enjoy being able to blend in and just be, you know? I would say if anything, I'm a little more of a hippie on off days. But when I hit the stage, the pop comes out of meand I'm more attracted to hot pink than I ever was before!
