Beauty Q&A with Catherine Zeta-Jones
Elizabeth Arden, the beauty brand with the iconic Red Door on Fifth Avenue in New York City, is celebrating its 100th anniversary. And in honor of the occasion, we had the opportunity to chat with the brand's spokesperson, Catherine Zeta-Jones. Let's just get this out of the way: Catherine Zeta-Jones (or "CZJ," as we like to call her) is drop-dead gorgeous in person. Between her perfect red lips (more on that later,) porcelain skin, and smoky eyes, the Broadway star and mother of two looked like she just stepped off a 1940s movie set. Here's what she told us about her beauty philosophy, skin-care tips, and favorite products.

RB: You look amazing in that red lipstick. Any tips on pulling it off?
CZJ: I'm wearing Elizabeth Arden's new Limited Edition Red Door Red charity lipstick. It's very sheer so you can layer it on, which makes it universally flattering. [Editor's Note: All of the proceeds from the lipstick will be donated to the Look Good...Feel Better cancer charity.]
RB: You've worked with some of the best hair and makeup pros in the business. What are some great beauty tips that you've picked up?
CZJ: The importance of moisturizer. I was under the impression for many years that if you put on too much moisturizer, your makeup isn't going to stay on, which is a complete fallacy. I've found that Prevage Anti-Aging Serum helps my skin glow and stay hydrated without looking greasy at all. Eyebrow shaping is another thing. I actually just bought a book about it because I'm obsessed with eyes. On stage, I try to make my eyes look really large, almost like a doll. So I have lots of fun playing with that. I love the Elizabeth Arden Smoky Eyes Powder Pencil. It's really soft so you don't feel like you're ripping off your skin when you apply it.
RB: How do you pamper yourself on a rare day off? Do you have a favorite spa treatment?
CZJ: I love the Ultimate Facial at the Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa. For many years I felt guilty about that kind of thing, but then I realized, boy did I not do it as much as I should've done because once I had my children and my work schedule became more intense, I cherished those times. It does something for your morale. It boosts your energy and you feel more relaxed. It just makes everything better.
RB: You're known for really turning on the glamour on the red carpet. What was your favorite big red carpet moment?
CZJ: The very first time I attended the Oscars and I wore a red beaded Versace dress. I saw it on Kate Moss at the fashion show and I told Donatella [Versace] that I loved it and she said, "I'll make it in red for you." I wasn't sure because it was my first big red carpet and I didn't know if I should wear a red dress, but I figured Donatella knew what she was talking about.
RB: Who are some of your favorite beauty icons?
CZJ: I have many...Ava Gardner, Elizabeth Taylor, Natalie Wood. They're all brunettes, obviously.
RB: We all want to know how you maintain your figure. What are your best exercise/nutrition tips?
CZJ: I really have to drag myself to the gym. I know that after I work out I'll feel so much better when the endorphins have kicked in. But it's still hard to get my butt there. Obviously, being on Broadway is great, because I have to keep my stamina up. The nervous energy of getting up there for eight shows a week is a workout itself. I also live close to the park in New York City and I have two little ones to run after.
