Get Summer's Must-Have Perm Hairstyle At Home
It's hard to believe it, but one of summer's must-try hairstyles is actually a re-invention of the iconic '80s perm. With celebs like AnnaLynne McCord and Leona Lewis sporting spiral curls out and about, it should come as no surprise that fashionistas are following suit. If you're not willing to get the professional treatment just yet, Andrea Battista, owner of Junior & Hatter salon in Miami, FL, has tips for re-creating the voluminous, faux perm style at home.
Step 1: Dry hair with a blowdryer. Make sure all moisture is out of your hair.
Step 2: Divide hair into quadrants, working down from your natural part and dividing into four sections.
Step 3: Spray each section with a flexible hairspray to protect from heat and hold the style.
Step 4: Starting with the bottom quadrant, take a small section (one inch or thumbnail size wide) and curl with a 3/4 inch curling barrel. Try to get as close to the root as possible. Continue until every strand has been curled.
Step 5: Spray flexible hairspray throughout your hair.
Step 6: Open up the curls by running your fingers through your strands. The more you touch, the bigger your hair will get.
