Fess Up: Have You Shoplifted Makeup Before?

It's time for a little beauty confession. Have you ever stolen something from a cosmetics store? We're not saying in the past six months, but your lifespan. I can definitely admit to swiping a glittery lip gloss or two in my rebellious middle school days (sorry, Mom!), but I'm happy to say full-time employment and a decade of maturing has put that bad habit to rest.
It appears that's not the case for everyone, however. A recent study done by the Food Marketing Institute showed that health and beauty items accounted for 20 percent of all items stolen in supermarkets in 2008.
So what's the top product to pickpocket? According to MSNBC, Oil of Olay's Regenerist anti-aging products. This is also why these products are now locked in glass cases, forcing you to hunt down a store employee to unlock it before purchasing.
Stealing health and beauty products is a little different from stealing, let's say a car. Most shoplifters (and yes, they are teen girls) aren't interested in doing something wrong, they are interested in boosting their self-confidence. It also could be a mild case of embarrassment. The most stolen beauty products according to the National Retail Federation are e.p.t. pregnancy tests, Alli weight loss pills, and Rogaine.
What do you think about the abundance of beauty loot that gets lifted from stores in an average year? Is it the consumer's fault, or should we blame the companies for high prices? Post your thoughts below!
