4 Steps to Spring Clean Your Skin
Having a natural and radiant complexion doesn't have to be complicated. Dr. Gregory Wiener, board-certified plastic surgeon, gives us four easy and basic steps to incorporate into your daily skin routine to put your best face forward.
Incorporate Retinol and Vitamin C into Your Daily Routine. Vitamin C is essential for maintaining healthy skin collagen and keeping skin firm and resilient. It is also an antioxidant that reduces wrinkles and improves skin texture. Retinol helps increase cellular turnover and minimizes fine lines and sun damage.
Wear Sunscreen Everyday. Not only does overexposure to the sun cause skin cancer, but it will cause premature aging even in your 20s. Look for lotions and make-up products that contain sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 15.
Exfoliate Once a Week. Regular exfoliation removes dead skin, unclogs pores to allow the growth of new, healthy skin, and helps skin to better absorb retinol and Vitamin C. However, over-exfoliation can lead to over-active oil glands, breakouts, and potential scarring, so make sure to limit it to about once a week.
Moisturize Proper moisturizing will not only keep skin hydrated, but it will maintain the skins elasticity and prevent wrinkles. Overly dry skin can cause breakouts and potential scarring. If oily skin is an issue, look for a face lotion that is specially formulated to control oil and minimize shine.
