Sandra Bullocks The Blind Side Blonde
Going to see The Blind Side starring Tim McGraw and Sandra Bullock this Thanksgiving weekend I knew one thing was for certain I would need to bring tissues to the theater. What I didn't know was if Sandra Bullock, who plays Leigh Anne Tuohy, the woman who takes in Michael Oher to become a part of their family, could pull off being a blonde.
I have loved Bullock for years for her brunette hair color and while I admit I did some prejudging regarding the film seeing her switch to the blonde team for the role, the color started to grow on me as I watched. I read in a recent interview that Bullock's family had a similar reaction to my own upon her change in hair color. "They didnt like it at all," Bullock said. "It was entertaining for a couple of months but it's not really my color palette."
Blonde may not be for Bullock, but I doubt anyone can say she didn't pull it off beautifully. If you have been thinking about taking the plunge to blonde, or just lightening your natural hair color, try one of these tips below.
To go lighter: look for a permanent shade that has the words neutral, beige, or ash in the name to prevent your hair from looking brassy. To go even lighter, use a highlighting kit afterward.
Watch the time: Celebrity colorist Rita Hazan warns DIY dyers to start the timer as soon as the first color hits your head, and not to leave anything on longer than 30 minutes to avoid frying.
When it's time for a touch up job for your roots: Marie Robinson, senior colorist at Sally Hershberger Downtown Salon in NYC says to apply color closest to the scalp and only at the sections of regrowth, so you don't overprocess your hair or end up with two different hues.
