Our Beauty-Centric Lunch Date with Salma Hayek

And just when we thought Salma Hayek already had it all (a blockbuster career, baby, and billionaire), the brainy beauty goes and launches her own cosmetic line, that's actually affordable to boot.
Taking a much-needed break from fashion week, we sat down with Hayek to dish about her primping secrets and find out what sets her new CVS-only brand (appropriately called Nuance) apart from the legions of other celebrity makeup, skin-care, and hair labels. Spoiler Alert: Turns out it's a lot.
"All around the world, there are so many generations of women who share the most amazing beauty secrets," explains the actress. "My goal was to incorporate all of those regional ideas into one line." From injectible vitamins used by Hayek's own grandmother in Mexico to Russian oils popular for post-op patients in Israel, Hayek has capitalized on her extensive travels (and bubbly demeanor) to find out what helps women look and feel beautiful.
But it wasn't always a cake walk. "A lot of the time, I wanted to do things that I was told could not be done," sighed the actress. (The line, which features over 100 products, has a price cap of $20.) Luckily, Hayek was committed to her mantra that, "It doesn't have to be expensive to be good." And created a bevy of efficacious solutions for most women's skin, hair, and makeup concerns, paying special attention to diversity among ethnicities and skin-types.
One of her favorite products? "The Front and Center Concealer," notes the budding entrepreneur. "I get terrible dark circles under my eyes and have discovered that orange pigments camouflage the area better than most." And even though this already-extensive line is fresh on shelves, don't wait for the 45-year-old diva to slow down anytime soon. When asked if she had a cream-to-powder foundation in the works, the actress was ready to let an editor try out in-development samples she had stashed in her hotel room—until her publicist stopped her, of course. Now, that's what we call a real beauty junkie.
