Rachel Zoe's Beauty Secrets Revealed

We're loving how hot mama, celebrity stylist and now designer Rachel Zoe has been glowing on this season of The Rachel Zoe Project. We chatted with her go-to beauty guru, Joey Maalouf, to find out what the queen bee stashes in her cosmetics bag, how to recreate her textured coils, and which makeup look you should try now.
Real Beauty: How does Rachel Zoe get ready for fall?
Joey Maalouf: It happens by accident. We go about our glam [ways], and then well get inspired. Maybe Ill buy new cosmetics, or shell go to a show and want the lip [color]. Its about whats happening in fashion.
RB: Tell us about her beauty routine.
JM: First, she was all about eyes, and now its red lips and nothing else. I predict that shell want a deep, bordeaux color [this season]. She loves lipstickputting it on is like wearing a Hermès cuff. She feels finished with it.
RB: What are your lipstick application tips?
JM: Its all about finding the right texture. If you bite your lips, then you need a dryer stain, because it lasts longer. If youre all about being pouty and like to reapply, then choose something with a little juice or gloss.
RB: How can we mimic her bananas perfect beach waves?
JM: Her natural texture is wavy, but this is what I tell women who are not good at doing their own hair. Create a middle part when your hair is wet, and loosely braid it into pigtails. Take it out in the morning, and lightly blowdry any damp spots. Use a no-clamp iron, like one from Sultra, and wrap some pieces around it. It looks good when the top stays straight, but the bottom is wavy and textured. [Editors note: We tried this at home, and it totally works!].
RB: What is Rachels best-kept beauty secret?
JM: She moisturizes her face three times a day, and her body once. She takes amazing care of her skin. I can relate to her, because I cant leave the house without moisturizing myself from head to toe, or I don't feel awake. Its like having my coffee.
RB: Whats your favorite moisturizing product?
JM: I enjoy Embryolisse . It works well with most peoples skin [types], because it doesn't get too greasy or dry. It balances out where you are naturally oily and where you get flaky. Its an amazing base for foundation. But when in doubt, use Burts Bees. Its the most satisfying product you can get at your local drug store.
RB: What three products should every woman stash in her cosmetics bag?
JM: 1. Serge Lutens Kohl Eye Liner. It's so black, and if you have to reapply, its the perfect texture to do so. It easily takes you from day to night. 2. Exude. I love the elastic texture, and it has a hint of mint. So if you don't want to carry around a toothbrush after lunch, you can kills two birds with one stone. Rachel's favorite shade is Cranberry. 3. A mini L'Oreal Elnett Satin Hairspray. It keeps hair from frizzing and spruces it up. Just flip your head over and spray to create volume.
RB: What hair and makeup looks are you feeling right now?
JM: I love a bold, bright eyeslike a yellow, pink, or green eye shadow. Its fun because you usually associate those colors with spring. But if you mix them with classic, chic fall wardrobe pieces, then it becomes cool, unexpected, and eye catching. Its all about the application. Do a practice run and show a few friends at home before you show up to the office with electric pink eyes. Be subtle; add a streak of hot pink eyeliner over a black one. It will look minimal and give you more of an impact.
