Why Does it Matter if Prince William is Balding?
Since the announcement of the royal wedding, Kate Middleton and her vast selection of hats and slim figure aren't the only subjects on tabloid headlinesPrince William's receding hairline is getting some buzz, too.
A recent New York Times article "Balding Men Worry About Marketability" says that as a man's youthful looks begin to fade, so does his self-esteem. In the least, this is refreshing to hear as women generally are the ones who seem to worry the most about aging and staying young. Think about all the anti-aging creams, cellulite-ridding potions, and skin-brightening lotions that all promise to give a more youthful appearanceand how many times we fall for them.
The article goes on to say, "Because of the blow to their self-esteem, some balding men simply settle when it comes to spouses, said Mr. Kobren, host of The Bald Truth. "Guys believe they don't have much time left as they continue to lose their hair. They kind of grab the person closest to them who they find relatively attractive at the time. Emotionally it's too difficult for them to go out there and try to court the girl of their dreams if they are feeling emotionally insecure about themselves."
Now, we doubt that Wills had to beg Kate to stay with him on account of his thinning head of hair. (Princess status, just saying!) But at the same time, all royalty aside, we know very well that the singles scene gets a little more difficult as we climb up in age. Would you date a guy (even if he was in his 20s) who had thinning hair? And if you answer no, ask yourself if you would be okay with being turned away because you had crow's feet. See the double standard?
It's no secret that celebrities are the first in line when it comes to tweaking every imperfection back to perfection. But half of their job is looking flawless at all times. Do you think it's better for Prince William to let genetics and nature take their course and embrace his balding head? Or, as the future figurehead of England, should he invest in some treatments to get his full head of hair back?
