The Best and Worst Hair of the 2011 People's Choice Awards

1/6/2011 10:49:00 AM by Colleen Moody

annalynne mccord

The beginning of awards season is a girl's equivalent to football season for your boyfriend. You wait in anticipation to see who is wearing what, what their hair looks like, and who you can rightfully gawf at as you sit at home in your Snuggie (don't be embarrassed, we have one too). Though the People's Choice Awards are often the tamest when it comes to hair and makeup, we managed to scrounge up some gorgeous hairstyles we loved, and ones that made us scratch our heads. See if you agree with us below.

Best Pony: AnnaLynne McCord

As beauty editors, there isn't a ponytail we haven't seen, but McCord's ponytail, a hybrid between finger waves in the front and a slightly teased pony in the back made us do a double take. To get this look, part hair in the center in a low ponytail. Pull out some hair at the top of the elastic and pull your ponytail to tighten and slightly raise it. To get faux finger waves, curl the front pieces of your hair and secure in back with bobby pins.

Best Updo: Dania Ramirez

We were elated to see that Dania Ramirez was sporting a high updo that didn't give her helmet head and/or looked like a ridiculous bouffant. She proves that you can get height without going over the top on volume. Follow in her fierce footsteps by separating hair into two halves. With the first lower half, twist into a chignon or high bun and with the top half wrap around the bun to get the some extra boost without turning your head into an Amy Winehouse beehive.

Best Manscape: Zac Efron

Oh, men. We feel bad for them. Girls can cut, dye, curl, and style their hair a million ways to make a statement and the only thing guys can really do is change their tie color. That's why we were happy to see Zac Efron took his Bieber-esque locks and buzzed them off. Sure, he sort of looks like a middle school boy who stole your lunch money, but sometime a man needs to give himself a little makeover, especially after a breakup. Perhaps this is his breakover cut?

Best Curls: Katy Perry

Katy Perry, looking like the funky Barbie doll we always wanted in a Betsey Johnson tutu dress is quickly giving Taylor Swift a run for her money in the curls department. Danilo, Pantene celebrity stylist got the look by misting hair with the Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Heat Protection & Shine Spray to wet and condition. He then focused on prepping her roots by spraying them with the Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Root Lifter Spray Gel. After a quick blowout and a dollop of Pantene Pro-V Restore Beautiful Lengths Smoothing Balm, he separated the hair into sections and curled with the help of Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Professional Level Style Shaping Hairspray to set each section. He pinned up each section and let cool for five minutes before releasing the curls, brushing gently to shake out. He parted her hair to the side with lift in the front, and left her remaining curls big and loose for the final finish.

Best Sex Appeal: Kristen Stewart

Positioned between her two hot men in a Twilight sandwich (life's really not fair), Kristen Stewart was missing her usual awkward stance and terror in her eyes as she walked in heels to accept her award. Instead, she was sporting a super short dress that showed off her sexy stems and switched up her straight strands with teased waves. Frederic Fekkai's Adir Abergel handled Stewart's tresses by applying Fekkai Advanced Full Blown Volume Styling Whip throughout hair. Next, he roughly blow-dried her hair with his hands until it was almost dry. Using a round brush, he dried the rest of the hair straight and then curled it using a 1 1/4 inch curling iron, combining Fekkai Coiff Ocèanique Tousled Wave Spray with Fekkai Advanced Brilliant Glossing Cream to create full and sexy texture.

Worst Tan: Ashley Tisdale

Showing up to the red carpet looking like she just took a Sleeping Beauty length nap in a tanning booth, Ashley Tisdale's bronze was a little too much Snooki-ed instead of coming off as a natural glow. Take a look at these products to keep your skin from looking orange.

Hair Color That's Tugging at Our Heart Strings: Khloe Kardashian

This topic is one of heated debate here at the Real Beauty offices. At first glance, some staffers winced at Khloe Kardashian's new red hue. The color just seems to wash her complexion out. But at second glance, some staffers started whistling a new tune. "She looks like a version of Isla Fisher!" one editor exclaimed. So, we're torn. What do you think of Khloe's new color? Post your thoughts on her and your other favorite looks from the People's Choice Awards below.
