Red Carpet Nutrition Tips

The Academy Awards is like the Super Bowl for celebrities. Between the detoxing, Botoxing, dress snatching, and spray tanning, it's the big players' time to shine on the red carpet. I enjoy this because I can sit in my sweats and judge, very unrightfully so (these would be the dirty sweatpants from college that you picked up a frat house, not cute PINK sweats).

If you are a bigger person than I am and see this as an opportunity to whip yourself into shape, take some tips from celebrity nutritionist Oz Garcia, who has whipped the likes of Kim Cattrall and Heidi Klum in shape for the big day. Even if you don't have a red carpet to attend (like most of us), try some of these nutrition tips to get yourself ready for a huge presentation, date, or whatever else may be stressing you out.

The night before...

Get a massage. Massages reduce levels of the stress hormone cortisol, while boosting the feel-good hormones serotonin and dopamine. This will also help lull you to sleep. Speaking of sleep, you should be getting about eight hours of it before a big event. This will recharge your brain and reset your internal metabolic clock.

The day of...

You're not going to like this, but the truth hurts. Garcia suggests waking up and go for a 40-minute jog or brisk walk outside. You need the sunlight for vitamin D so you can release dopamine into your system — an instant energy boost with lasting effects, it motivates you to have a healthy day. Eat a healthy breakfast, like a Greek yogurt with berries. Drinking lots of water throughout the day will also help flush out any extra bloating you may be feeling. During the day, eat micro meals instead of three big meals to keep hunger away. Things like almonds, salads, and even a small piece of dark chocolate will curb cravings and have you looking and feeling your all time best. Now, follow my mantra: What Would Beyoncé Do? That's obvious: Work it!
