I Made it Through My First Juice Cleanse!

This week I decided to step out of my comfort zone and try something I never thought I would: a juice cleanse. I had heard mixed reviews about the entire experience, so I thought I should let my own body (and constantly rumbling stomach) be the judge.
I did a little research and found myself intrigued by Organic Avenue's approach to cleansing. They have five distinct raw food, organic juice cleanse experiences and each program is based on love (and well, who doesn't like love?). As a self-proclaimed daring individual, I decided to take my chances and go for the Love Deep option (the all liquid cleanse) and forego my usual diet of Banh Mi sandwiches and late-night pizza (for those three days, at least).
So here we go, read on for a run-down of my first experience with juicing!
Day 1: I walked into the brightly lit and super cheery Organic Avenue pop-up shop on 57th St. in NYC and was immediately excited to be in with the über healthy crowd that populated the store. I wanted to go to yoga and only drink juice too! My first package of juices were waiting for me, already boxed up in an environmentally-friendly (obviously) orange tote, so the saleslady just sent me on my way with the words, "Happy cleansing!" Then, I started drinking. And kept drinking. To my surprise, the juices appropriated to me that day were actually delicious and pleasant to slurp up. My fave was Green Love which is a mixture of kale, celery, romaine, cucumber, swiss chard, spinach, collard greens, pear, lemon, and parsley. Like a mini salad! By the end of the day I was done with my allotted drinking and was feeling good!
Day 2: Man, did I wake up hungry. But, on the flip-side I did feel empty enough to slip on old pair of one-size-too-small jeans, so ha! Great way to start the morning. I picked up my second package and peered through the flavors. So many incredible looking ones to choose from! This time, I was totally feeling the ginger lemonade which was chock-full of purified alkaline water, lemon, lime, ginger, and coconut sugar. To be honest, it tasted kind of like the pickled ginger you get with sushi (which is why it rocked). Once bedtime rolled around, I was dreaming of fried pork dumplings, but I kept it together and did, ultimately, feel pretty toxin-free.
Day 3: I made it! My last day on the cleanse-train. While I was ready to get back to my coffee-guzzling, breakfast sandwich-loving life, I felt strangely greatlike I had accomplished some feat that only way healthier, more hip people could overcome. I re-read the warning emails that I had gotten from the wonderful people over at Organic Avenue, cautioning me against the dizziness or fatigue that I may feel throughout the process. Luckily, I hadn't suffered from a single side effect (other than fantasy food dreams, of course). The best variety on the last day was cucumber juice made from 100% organic cucumbers. It was light, refreshing and only slightly sweet.
Now that I made it through the juice cleansing trenches, I can honestly say I would do it again. I had a fun, somewhat challenging 72 hours and feel slightly skinnier (always a plus) and absolutely cleansed of all my sins (kind of). In my professional juicing opinion, I wholeheartedly recommend this experience to anyone looking to switch things up and add a little health factor to their diets. A special thanks to Organic Avenue!
