How to Help Oklahoma
It's hard to know what to do after a disaster like the tornado that hit Oklahoma yesterday. Our hearts and thoughts have been with everyone affected, but we felt the need to do more. We are sure many of you feel the the same, so we decided to roundup up the different ways to donate and help those in need:
On a national level, there is the Red Cross, which is accepting donations online or by phone (1-800-RED-CROSS). You can also donate $10 automatically by texting red cross to 90999 straight from your phone. If you want to contribute on a more local level, Tulsa Community Foundations Moore/ Shawnee Tornado Relief Fund is accepting donations online. The funds donated to the Moore/ Shawnee Fund will be focused towards the mid and long-term community redevelopment efforts to rebuild the lives and homes of those affected by the tornado. We decided to donate to the United Way of Central Oklahoma, whose funds will be distributed without administration fees to partner agencies working toward immediate needs and intermediate and long-term care. For a more specific donation, the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma is accepting donations that will go towards fighting hunger in the midst of the disaster.
Just remember that no donation is too small, even donating blood at your local blood bank or hospital can help in the relief efforts.
