Backstage at NYFW: Diane Von Furstenberg Embraces Diversity
Backstage at Diane Von Furstenberg, M·A·C Cosmetics lead makeup artist, James Kaliardos discussed something that not everyone in the fashion and beauty biz is willing to talk about. "Diane is unfortunately one of the only designers in America who shows an extremely diverse casting," he said "She really wanted to reflect how many different people are in this country, all of whom buy fashion and wear makeup. It's been really wonderful to work with such diverse beauties."
With that in mind the designer and makeup master decided to create different looks on each girl using shades like desert, peach, copper, taupe, and bronze, depending on which looks best on their face shape and skin tone. "The models are not being made up as if they are one girl, but as many different girls, each of which are beautiful," said Kaliardos. "I'm here to figure out how to reflect that beauty and individuality. That was really important to Diane."
