Backstage at NYFW: NARS for DANNIJO

At the super swanky Jane Hotel in the West Village, I talked to the lead makeup artist for NARS, Jenny Smith, before the DANNIJO presentation. She explained that the look is "more about a feeling than an actual color." In fact, each model had their own customized lip shade!
"If you think about the emotion of what's coming up for fall and winter, you think darker, somber, it's a little more moody. Like a renaissance painting that's really romantic and soft, yet has depth à la Margot Tenenbaum. Basically, it's all about a lip that has darkness to it without feeling goth. She's a modern renaissance girl."
After I got the low-down on the inspiration behind the makeup look, I asked her to pick her favorite thing about fashion week. She chose a pretty rad answer, "I love the madness of it. I love running into people backstage who are also just as passionate about it. We're all in this together, we're all in this for the same reasons. It's all for the passion of doing what we love."
