Makeup Tips to Steal from Miss Universe

There was a lot of weird stuff that went down during the airing of Miss Universe this week. First, the fact that Bret Michaels and Natalie Morales were chosen to host together left us completely befuddled. That's the equivalent of having Barbara Walters and Dennis Rodman co-host The View it just doesn't make sense. Aside from the odd couple, the dancing Elvis impersonators, and the abundance of sequins that slightly burned our retinas when the light hit them a certain way, we managed to pull some good out of the competition. Her name is Mexico.
Fine, her name really isn't Mexico, but Jimena Navarrete, who won Miss Universe representing Mexico, didn't make us cringe with a ridiculous, overly hairsprayed updo or makeup as thick as Crisco. Here are the tips we took away from the beauty queen winner, and how you can pull them off too.
Her smoky eye: The fact that Mexico used her eyeliner properly (cough, cough, we're looking at you, Taylor Momsen) made us jump for cosmetic joy. A little bit goes a long way when you're doing your own smoky eye. The trick is to use a gel or liquid liner, then smudge the edges with a swab or your finger.
Her tan: Now that's a healthy glow! No fake-and-bake orange hue here. To get our picks of the best sunless tanners, check out our Self-Tanner Challenge.
Her brows: We've never said this (out loud) before, but we have serious brow envy! These beautifully sculpted, full brows had us subconsciously stroking our own eyebrows all night. To get this vamped-up brow look, take this tip from brow expert Karen Scott: Pencil in your brows using short strokes and blending with a brush afterward. Always brush eyebrows in an upward motion to show off the natural line of the brow and keep some Vaseline handy it helps grow out overplucked or tweezed brows.
There you have it. Feel free to thank us in your acceptance speech if you ever find yourself with a crown on your head even if it's just your bachelorette crown adorned with fake man bits.
