Miranda Lambert's CMA Updo

I don't know if this is socially acceptable to admit in New York, where black is always in and cowboy boots are not to be worn unless the word Prada comes before them, but I love country music. I blame my parents, who regularly attend professional bull riding competitions on the weekends. Yes, I'm serious.
Though it's easy for me to stash away my Daisy Dukes and Rascal Flatts playlists, I could not stay away from the Country Music Awards last night. Crooning, cowboy hats, and Keith Urban? I've had worse Sunday nights, that's for sure.
Carrie Underwood may have won the award for Entertainer of the Year, but the Real Beauty award for best updo of the night would have to go to Miranda Lambert. This messy style was perfect with her dress(es), and is one of the newest spring trends you can be sure to see a lot of this season. The best part about this style is that is looks loosely assembled and messy but will actually stick with you all night long, definitely good for a rodeo or two.
To get a low, messy bun similar to Lambert's all you need are a plethora of bobby pins. Gather your hair at the nape of your neck and pin back in bun fashion. Section off hair and piece by piece, pinning hair up in all different directions, overlapping one another. If you have super thick hair, pull hair back into a ponytail first, and then section off hair and pin up. For added drama, pull some pieces down in the front to frame your face or, let the pieces fall naturally as you pin your hair back. Be sure to mist with a light, flexible hairspray like Pantene Pro-V Style Volume Hairspray, Flexible Hold Control for extra hold. Another secret: Cross bobby pins in an "X" for each section you pin up; this will make sure they stay put!
