Marie Robinson Opens Her Own Salon in NYC

5/4/2010 3:15:00 PM by Andrea Lavinthal

What it is: The Marie Robinson Salon in New York City

Why we love it: As a beauty editor, I have access to the best colorists in NYC and beyond, (don't hate me!), and for awhile I had a new person doing my highlights practically every month. To put it bluntly, I was a total hair-color slut. But even though I had the crème de la crème working on my coif, mostly the results were just "meh." Plus, I couldn't deal with the 'tude at some of those fancy salons. I was determined to find a colorist I could stay faithful to. And I did. Here's how it happened: A colleague of mine dyed her hair from chestnut brown to golden blonde, and it looked amazing. I asked her who did it, and three days later I was sitting in Marie Robinson's chair at Sally Hershberger Downtown.

It's been almost four years, and I am hopelessly devoted to Marie. So much so, that when I recently got word that she left Sally Hershberger Downtown, I nearly broke out in hives. Where did she go? Could I ever find anyone who could give me the same perfect sun-kissed highlights? Would another colorist be as nice as laid-back Marie? Luckily, I didn't have to breathe into a paper bag, since it turned out Marie was quietly in the process of opening her own salon (with business partner and stylist Abell Oujaddou) in New York City's Flatiron neighborhood.

I couldn't wait to check out the Marie Robinson Salon, and let me tell you — it did not disappoint. Despite its size (5,000 square feet), the airy space is as warm and inviting as the owner herself, with huge windows and a gorgeous waiting area.

Stunning decor aside, the salon's biggest attraction is the all-star lineup of staff, many of whom have an impressive celebrity clientele: stylists Tommy Buckett (Ashley Olsen), Ryan Trygstad (Sandra Bullock), and Allison Woodruff (Parker Posey), and colorist Bryan Thomson-DiPalma (who is responsible for Marie's enviable platinum hue). Plus, Gwen Stefani's mane man, Danilo, will call the salon home when he's in NYC, and brow expert/makeup artist Landy Dean is on hand for touch-ups. In other words, ladies, this is the hottest salon in town, so definitely check it out.
