Backstage at NYFW: Laura Mercier for Pamella Roland
For Pamella Roland's show, inspired by the history of the Czar and the Russian Court, lead makeup artist, Matin Maulawizada for Laura Mercier, created a golden eye look—complete with gold mascara developed exclusively for the show.
"When you look at the blonde Russian girls, they don't really have any lashes—or they have blonde lashes—so we wanted to take away all the attention from the eye area and focus on the lips," Maulawizada says. The lip in question? A deep red wine shade, also seen on Claire Danes at this year's SAG Awards. "I did this [Pamella Roland] look first," Maulawizada explains, "But then I got inspired."
