Size Matters When It Comes to Your Eyes
You've seen your child wearing Coke cans in her hair, asking for a bra that shoots fire for her birthday and now, she wants big circle contact lenses. Yup, blame it on Gaga. Lady Gaga is getting blamed for a growing yet dangerous trend, big "circle contacts," which are colored contact lenses that make your irises appear larger than normal.
Seems cool, right? Heck, there's even a YouTube video on how to get the exact look so it must be the hottest thing on the streets. Not quite. These bug-eyed contacts are actually extremely risky, not to mention illegal. Yet, according to the New York Times, this growing beauty trend is popping up all over the Internet, with lenses ranging from $20 to $30 to give you a doe-eyed, baby doll appearance.
The wrench in this plan is that contacts that don't come with a prescription from a professional could cause serious eye injuries and even blindness, says the F.D.A. Contacts that are not properly sized for your eyes cut off the oxygen supply you need, hence why you shouldn't force an oversized lens into your eyeball.
I can attest to this. I had my girlfriend steal, err borrow me some of her sister's blue contacts in high school (ah, to be young and stupid) to try them on and o-u-c-h. Not the most comfortable things I've ever put into my eyeballs. But let's not blame Gaga too harshly for this trend. Though girls are idolizing the Gags lately, her look is completely computer generated in the video. Get more scoop on the circle contact trend here.
What do you think of the Gaga eye look? Cute, creepy, or too crazy to even try?
