Happy Birthday to the dreamy Nirvana frontman! Though fashion and public image may not have topped his list of priorities, the singer's rebellious punky style choices quickly became a uniform for those who identified with his "saying, doing, and playing what you want" philosophy. Often referred to as the spokesman of Generation X, he launched the Seattle grunge movement and the world took notice–to this day he's revered as a fashion and pop culture icon.
Recently there has been a very obvious (and welcome!) resurgence of grunge all over the red carpet (Claire Danes in 90s-esque lipstick), the runway (Dries Van Noten pictured above), and the streets. Because the rocker would have turned 46 today, slick on some vampy lipstick, tie a plaid flannel around your waist, and start sniffing around for Teen Spirit.
