But if you're one of the coiled beauties who has avoided keratin because of its potentially caustic effects on your hair and health – a Good Housekeeping investigation tested four common keratin treatments and found levels of formaldehyde in all of them exceeding the Cosmetic Ingredient Review’s 0.2 percent recommended threshold (yikes!) - there might be another option for you.

In response to women's complaints about expensive salon keratin treatments (they can cost up to $500) and complicated at-home options, two women entrepreneurs created Keratin Earth, an at-home keratin treatment that's formaldehyde-free and cuts down on the scary chemicals that women might be putting in their hair. Heleyne Mishan and Kathleen Croddick developed the kit to include a shampoo, conditioner, straightening therapy treatment, and deep conditioner. From start to finish, the process takes half an hour, and the makers promise that the frizz-free results will last for at least 30 days. Plus, at $79.95, this treatment won’t break the bank.
