Katy Perry's Bouncy AMA Curls

11/22/2010 12:17:00 PM by Colleen Moody

katy perry

Last night's American Music Awards was like taking a trip back to our teeny bopping, boy band loving years (New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys on one stage? Too much.) There were some outrageous hair and makeup moments (we're talking to you, Ke$ha) and some killer knockout looks (T. Swift's super straight strands were definitely a breath of fresh hair). Another subtle and soft look we loved was Katy Perry's classic Hollywood waves with a twist. With so many starts trying to one-up Lady Gaga (cough, cough Ke$ha), we've been taking soft looks like this one for granted.

Danilo, celebrity stylist from Pantene gave us the scoop on how to create this look using the Fine Hair Solutions from Pantene. "Before doing any hair style, I always encourage my clients to wash and condition their hair, that way I can start with a clean, healthy base," he says. "I recommend beginning with the Pantene Pro-V Fine Flat to Volume Shampoo and Conditioning regimen, the customized formula gently cleanses hair to help remove dulling residue and build up while replenishing from root to tip."

"To get Katy's waves, I applied a light mist of the Pantene Pro-V Fine Heat Protection & Shine Spray to Katy's hair before blow-drying. This helps to protect hair against heat while providing a soft, healthy-looking finish. Next, I sprayed each section with the Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Root Lifter Spray Gel, this provides weightless volume that is full of long lasting body and shine. After her hair was prepped, I blew it out, creating volume from the base of the strands."

"Using a medium curling iron, I created a spiral glamour set on each section of the hair and sprayed it with the Pantene Pro-V Touchable Volume Hairspray," Danilo said. "Then each curl was pinned up and left to cool. Once I took the curls out, I used a glamour set where I brushed the curls out so the wave pattern revealed itself, opposed to hair being tousled. What I love about this look is that the wave is at the bottom, opposed to a retro look were the hair is curled under. I finished by misting the hair with the Pantene Pro-V Touchable Volume Hairspray."

What do you think about Katy's look? Too perfect, or too boring for a red carpet? Post your thoughts, and other AMA favorites below!
