Fanciful Florals And Colorful Contrast At Kate Spade!

9/7/2012 5:25:00 PM by Hallie Gould

As I'm sure you know, fashion week is a crazed seven days of trends, beauty, backstage, runway, and a higher level of stress than the other 358 days in a beauty editor's life. However, it's the striking shows and dreamy presentations that remind us of how fun our jobs really are. This morning (bright and early!) I stopped by the Kate Spade Spring 2013 presentation. Celebrating their 20th Anniversary, the playful fashion label curated its newest collection by pulling inspiration from technicolor hues and streamlined silhouettes.

I walked into the large, breezy West Village loft space and headed straight backstage to check out the hair, makeup, and nail extravaganza. True to form, the models mugs were painted with confetti colored Jouer Cosmetics eyeshadow and shocking pink blush was swept across their cheekbones. What I fell for most, though, were the impeccable manis. Done by Deborah Lippmann, each girl sported talon tips in milky white or gingham and held a feathery, colorblocked, or patterned handbag. Each of their hair was carefully swept up into a modern pompadour-like pony courtesy of Tommy Buckett for Garnier.

I chomped on a truffled ricotta crostini and snapped pics of stylist and reality star, Brad Goreski, all the while gushing over the adorable mixed prints and bright flower bouquets. It seems jewel tones, florals, and candy-colored garb is on the menu for spring. I skimmed the room and couldn't get enough of the cobalt blues, mint creams, and orange creamsicle fabrics cut into retro A-lines and decorated with well-placed bows. Then, as if the event couldn't get any better, my guilty pleasure girl crush, Lauren Conrad, walked in sporting a high ponytail, ombré locks, and her signature cateye. I darted towards her (my platform-clad feet suddenly had a mind of their own) and noticed she was wearing Garance Doré's design for Kate Spade. My fave Hills girl donning the illustrations of my favorite blogger! All in all, I would say this show was a delightful way to start the day. Till next time, beauties!
