How to Update Your Makeup for Summer
With the summer upon us, it's time switch up our makeup to accomodate the warmer weathernot always the easiest task. So we hit up Dex Phillip of DEX New York for some tips on changing our foundation to account for a deepening tan and adding a bold summery color into our routine.
Be sure to change your foundation: "When a woman is going from her winter color to her summer color, some don't understand that you have to take it a shade up," Phillip says. "You may not be that bake-in-the-sun girl, but you are still getting some natural light. If you keep with your winter color, you'll look a little washed out and ashy."
Keep your concealer in mind: When your skin tone changes, you can't just change your foundation, but your concealer has to switch as well. "If you don't, the contrast between concealing under the eye and the rest of the skin will look a little raccoon-ish," says Phillip.
Give the smoky eye a summery twist: "I love a great, subtle smoky eye," says Phillip. "Not dark, more with a gilded sense of mystery." Try something with a little shimmer like, DEX Grand Central Coffee. Put it on the lid and the bottom rim of the eye and then smudge it out. Since it is not too bright, go bold with the cheeks or lips.
Don't forget an illuminator: Apply it as a finishing touch. "It will keep your under eye from looking too powdery, and keep you looking young, dewy, and fresh.
