Backstage Beauty Talk with Gwen Stefani

Raise your hand if you have a massive girl crush on Gwen Stefani. That's what we thought. Between her "day job" as the lead singer for No Doubt, her killer clothing line, and her gorgeous rocker hubby (not to mention their two adorable sons), who wouldn't want to step into her sky-high platform heels for a day? Real Beauty snagged an exclusive interview with the platinum blonde superstar backstage during the Spring 2011 L.A.M.B. show, and she's just as stunning and insanely cool in person as you'd think.
When asked about her signature red lips (the models sported Maybelline New York Color Sensational Lipcolor in Red Revival #645 down the runway), Stefani revealed that she doesn't always wear red lipstick. "People think they see me every day, but they don't! I change it up. But my husband really loves the red, so I keep the red because I want to keep the husband." And instead of wearing just one color like us regular folk, the always-inventive Stefani prefers to mix a few shades together to create the perfect hue.
We also got a chance to talk to her about perfume, and were surprised to find out that Stefani never thought she'd launch one fragrance, let alone several. "I always thought why would I have some fragrance named after me? I'm in a band, why would I have a fragrance? Why would I have a fragrance named after me, it's silly, why do people do that?' It never clicked. But now being able to do a line and have fragrance and have clothes, it's all part of the layers you wear, and it makes more sense," she said.
Her latest launch, Harajuku Lovers Wicked Style, is a collection of limited edition versions of her five Harajuku Lover fragrances (available at Sephora in November). And even though the bottles appear effortlessly adorable (more on that in a minute), Stefani admitted that working on five fragrances at once is quite challenging, especially trying to match the personality of each girl to the fragrance type and name. But all of her hard work was definitely worth it, she said. "I love being able to say that I have five new perfumes. They turned out really good this time."

In addition to coming up with five unique scents, Stefani also gave each Wicked Style Harajuku Girl her own distinctive ensemble, makeup, and fuzzy felt hair. There's Love, Lil' Angel, Music, G (which stands for Gwen), and Baby. The bottles look so ridiculously cute together that we're waiting for someone to create a cartoon series based on the little dolls. Who knows? Maybe one day the singer/designer/fragrance creator will add "animator" to her long list of accomplishments.
