Alice + Olivia Designer Stacey Bendet Talks the Trends

With a few (massive) storms already under our belt, there is no denying the necessary change in our wardrobes. Its okay though, this season is all about fun things like print on print, bold pops of color, touches of leather, and glitzy ensembles. We caught up with Alice + Olivia designer Stacey Bendet and hair extraordinaire Anthony Cole of Sebastian Professional, to get the low down on the hottest trends for the chilly weather:
Go Goth. Bendets Fall 2012 line incorporates a dramatic Gothic look with a feminine twist. Try it out by mixing leather and lace as the hard and soft elements. Cole recommends a deep, dark lip and sexy, textured hair to complement the style. You can incorporate two different types of textures by loosely curling your hair, and pulling it back into a ponytail. Use Sebastian Trilliant protection and Sparkle Complex before you curl, in order to create body. For even more drama, slick the sides of your hair back using Sebastians Shine Crafter, before pulling it back.
Add a Pop of Color. Dreary weather affects our wardrobe, as well as our state of mind. Brighten up your look and your mood by adding pops of color to gray and black outfits. Bendet, a self-proclaimed lover of color, recommends pairing a bright top with black leather pants. Accessories are another fun way to incorporate bold hues into your fall wardrobe. When playing with this style, Cole suggests keeping the hair simple and sophisticated by pulling it back into a low bun or ponytail with an ever-so-subtle pompadour.
Mix Those Prints. Print on print is a fun way to liven up your look and take a bit of a fashion risk. Bendets favorite prints to mix are stripes and florals. It can be difficult pairing floral with floral, so if its your first time mixing and matching, Bendet suggests trying two completely different patterns. Cole advises to let the outfit do all the talking by keeping the hair simple. Try a high topknot thats both sophisticated and easy to achieve.
Sport a Sequin. Sequins are a fall essential, perfect for a night out. And with the holidays right around the corner, they are a perfectly appropriate and festive go-to. Bendets collection showcases several glitzy stunners that are sure to make any girl light up from the inside out. She recommends intensifying the look by mixing textures that put the shimmer on display. Try pairing your favorite sequin dress with leather gloves or a fur stole. Cole suggests keeping the look sultry with wavy hair worn down and only slightly done. Think bed head a la Kate Moss. Bonus Tip: Transition this trend into daytime by pairing a sequin top with a tailored blazer and sleek bun!
