Elizabeth and James, You Are My Sunshine

Sun-splashed and travel worthy, the look at Elizabeth and James was that of a low-key jetset woman. For the label's second Fashion Week presentation, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen drew inspiration from sunrises and sunsets around the world. As far as hair and makeup are concerned, the models appeared to be viewing sundown from the wide horizon of the Sahara.

Mark Townsend, who has been working with Mary-Kate and Ashley for 11 years, played up the desert feel by working with the models' natural texture (no blowouts here!). "Think of the traveler," Townsend says. "She needs a style she can take straight from the plane to work to a party—and can do in 15 minutes."

To get the look at home, create a center part and use your fingers to rake mousse through damp hair. Dry with a diffuser to keep frizziness at bay, and clean up any face-framing pieces with a curling iron. Spray the entire length of your hair with dry shampoo for added oomph (Townsend predicts textured, matte hair will be a major trend for spring), and pull hair into a low, loose ponytail. To finish, spritz hairspray onto a natural-bristle toothbrush and lightly smooth over hair to tame flyways.

Stila makeup artist Sarah Lucero wanted to reflect the warm sienna colors of the desert, enhancing each models' eye color with hazy reds and yellows. Cheeks were dabbed with a creamy caramel blush for added glow, which Lucero recommends applying (with your fingertips!) where the sun would naturally hit. Completing the look, a whisper of mascara was swiped on the outer lashes from root to tip for depth.
