Betty Draper's Classic Style
The Drapers are the picture perfect family from the outside. What's boiling just below the surface, however, is anything but perfect. And who could play the part of the ideal housewife better than Betty Draper? She is always exquisitely dressed, coiffed and groomed, the spitting image of well-to-do suburban life. January Jones slips seamlessly into Betty's shoes, and also her look.
Like Grace Kelly, her style is timeless and elegant. A real life Betty would probably have set her hair in rollers every night and spent her mornings combing, smoothing and spraying, making sure her waves were under control and locked-in tight. Unfortunately, to achieve this look curl-for-curl at home, you'd have to do the same thing. Don't despair, it's not as daunting as it sounds.
Hot rollers can help you achieve the same effect in a much shorter time period. You want to look for big rollers that will give you a nice large curl you can comb under. Start by parting your hair on the side and then separate hair into large sections. Starting at the ends and roll about three-quarters of the way up. Kick back and paint your toe nails as you wait for your hair to set. Remove rollers and comb out hair, focusing on curling the ends under. Use hairspray generously to keep it all in place.
