With summer about to officially kick off, brands all over are getting involved in new skin cancer initiatives. Check them out, plus other news below.
Hilary Swank Partners with American Cancer Society: The American Cancer Society announces the development of a new documentary film in collaboration with Academy Award-winning Actress Hilary Swank to inspire women nationwide to make their own health a priority and take everyday steps to help prevent cancer. The film helps mark the first anniversary of Choose You, a nationwide movement created by the American Cancer Society to raise awareness that 1 in 3 women will get cancer in her lifetime and the actions women can take today to help change that statistic. More than half of cancer deaths could be prevented if people maintained a healthy weight through diet and regular exercise, avoided tobacco products and got recommended cancer screening tests. Choose You the documentary tells the powerful and emotional stories of three women on their journey to put their personal health first despite many challenges such as family situations, busy schedules, and other roadblocks that often get in the way of a woman's personal health priorities. The documentary will be released online for women everywhere on June 23 at www.chooseyou.com. Women can join the movement and receive an invitation to the online premiere by registering at www.chooseyou.com or by "liking" Choose You on Facebook.
Kinerase Introduces Change Your Skin, Change Your Life Campaign: Valeant Pharmaceuticals North America LLC is pleased to announce the launch of the "Change Your Skin, Change Your Life," campaign, in which their sub-brand Kinerase will make three charitable donations in 2011. Each donation, which will be made in June, September, and December, will be decided upon by consumer suggestions on the Kinerase Facebook page. Participants will submit their favorite charities and then vote on the ones they like. The charities will then be narrowed down to the three most popular, at which time fans will have one week to vote again. The charity with the most votes will be the beneficiary of Kinerase's donation. Each donation will consist of 20 percent of the proceeds from sales of a selected product for a one month period at Ulta. The first product will be the Kinerase Lotion in June, the second will be the Kinerase Intensive Eye Cream in September and the last will be the Kinerase Cream in December.
The voting process will begin Monday, May 16th, when voters will submit the name of their favorite charity and on May 31st the winning charity will be announced. Immediately following voters are encouraged to visit their local ULTA and purchase Kinerase where a percentage of the proceeds will go to the charity.
