Backstage Report: Diane Von Furstenberg

The Inspiration: "Diane was inspired by the women of Africa for this look," notes MAC makeup artist, James Kaliardos, who created the look seen here. "They exude a rare type of bare-faced beauty, plus the neutral hues of the African landscapes work on all skin-tonesit's just a matter of finding your correct shade range."
Makeup:"Even though it looks like the models aren't wearing any makeup, I've actually used Cream Colour Base in an array of shades to sculpt the eyes and cheeks," adds Kaliardos. "The trick was to keep the lip bare and let the natural texture of the skin shine through." And for women worried about donning a gloss-less pout? "Exfoliating your lips is the best way to slough away dry skin, while increasing circulation."
Hair: "Diane wanted this collection to be about new beginnings, but she also wanted the hair to have an unfinished quality," explains T3 celebrity hairstylist, Orlando Pita. "So, even though this beehive started as a rustic updo, it ended up as an over-sized chignon reminiscent of Kim Novak." To execute this look at home, "use hairsprayand tease, tease, tease."
RB's Insider Tip: "To get a 1970s-esque, minimalistic look, like Lauren Hutton or Beverly Johnson, use white and yellow cream pigments at the center of your upper lids to make your eyes pop," adds Kaliardos. "Concentrate lighter colors where you want to draw the most attention."
