Backstage Report: Catherine Malandrino
The Inspiration: "Catherine's show is really about the modern woman," explains Clairol colorist Marie Robinson, who custom dyed the models' bespoke manes. "The collection is ready-to-buy so the look had to be ready-to-wear, while still having traces of cinematic inspiration. Catherine referred to Sophia Loren and Ava Gardner as muses."
Makeup:"The lip is really the focal point of the face, here," says CoverGirl celebrity makeup artist, Ashunta Sheriff (she tends to Alicia Keys' gorgeous mug in her off-time). "It's very Paris-meets-New York." Sheriff layered CoverGirl Intense ShadowBlast in Beige Blaze and Brown Bling to create the neutral eye. For the face, she sculpted the cheekbones with brown powders from the CoverGirl Queen collection "even if the women didn't have darker skin." And topped off the look with an "electric, purple plum shade called Covergirl Lip Perfection Lipstick in Embrace."
Hair: "The key to getting this look is to brush out your curls after you unwind them," notes Pantene hairstylist, Danilo. "Use a leave-in conditioner to get a silkier, more luxurious finish."
RB's Insider Tip: "Women don't know how to set their anymore," laments Danilo. "But this was how women achieved these sophisticated looks for days at a time back in the 1960s." Hmm... as if we needed another reason to call our grandmothers this weekend...
