Ashlee Simpson-Wentz's Dye Job
Hark! Who goes there? Why it's none other than Ashlee Simpson-Wentz! She may have gotten the boot from Melrose Place but as we all know, when one door closes another door opens. This door just happened to be on Broadway for the musical Chicago. With a new gig comes a new, darker hair color for our fair skinned Simpson-Wentz.
I can't say Simpson-Wentz's hair has ever made me want to run to the salon for an immediate dye job. The blonde really didn't sit well with me (when your sister is Queen of Blondes Jessica Simpson you may want to shop around for another color). The red was ehh, but the color seemed a little forced, in a "look at me I dyed my hair please notice now" way, but this darker shade definitely draws attention without being too brassy or obnoxious.
To no surprise, the Simpson family's fierce wingman with a hair brush Ken Paves had a hand with changing Simpson-Wentz's hair color. In fact, he's been there from the beginning of her dyeing days! "I changed Ashlee Simpson's look," Paves said. "I oversaw my LA salon colorist, Tipareth Hallock, who created an ebony brown color (more of a brownish black) for Ashlee than she's had before. I updated her cut as well with more random layering, to create a lived in/grown out feel to suit Ashlee's effortlessly "cool" vibe. She loved it! Ashlee is a chameleon I've made her every shade of blonde, red, brown, and even held the bottle when she colored her hair black for her first album! She is gorgeous and can wear any color!"
Brunette is huge this season as the cold weather sets in. If you are looking to darken up your current color start out by going the DIY route to make sure it's something you are ready to commit to. If you're willing to take the plunge and go professional, remember that you'll need to tweak your makeup routine for your new dark haired self. Director of Artistry at Bobbi Brown Kim Soane suggests these makeup musts for your new 'do:
1. Darken your brows by using either a shadow or a brow pencil that matches your new hair color.
2. Choose darker eyeliner colors, like espresso or black, to keep your features from looking washed out.
3. Use black mascara, not brown. You need more intensity now that you've gone darker.
4. Try richer lip colors like berries, plums, and reds.
5. Go for dark brown and gray eye shadows. Both look beautiful, not stark, with brunette hair.
What do you think of Ashlee Simpson-Wentz's new hair color? Do you like the darker shade, or were you a fan of the red?
