The Best and Worst Hair of the AMAs

11/23/2009 5:14:00 PM by Colleen Moody

fergie

Poor little Taylor Swift almost died of a heart attack last night after winning five out of the six awards she was nominated for at the 2009 American Music Awards. I thought her heart was going to explode right out of her chest when she beat Michael Jackson for Artist of the Year. But aside from our joy for Taylor continuing to increase her chances of becoming the next President, we were having our own awards show during the AMAs, the Best and Worst Hairstyles of the evening.

There were tons of hair that was definitely suitable for the occasion, but we picked the best and worst two of out the categories we saw the most of, updos and waves.

Taking home the award for Best Waves has to be our girl Fergie Ferg. Her waves were deadly, and we loved her dark chocolate hair color with caramel toned highlights. It really gave her waves definition and the volume was impeccable. Check out more of Fergie's best hairstyles here.

The Worst Waves of the evening has to go to Kelly Clarkson. Her scrunchy hairstyle resembles how we used to wear our hair when we were 11 and spent all afternoon at the pool. We would have much preferred something short and straight, like a sleek and sophisticated longer bob.

It pains us to say that Kate Hudson gets the award for the Worst Updo. Her hair was assembled in a messy high bun, like the kind you throw up when you are washing your face at night and don't want to get soap in your hair. It makes us sad to see those beautiful golden tresses just slopped up there, thank goodness we had Nicole Kidman's shiny straight hair to distract us from crying.

Drum roll please! The award for Best Updo of the night goes to Alicia Keys! Her elegant, braided bang updo was classy and very different, a refreshing look on the red carpet from the usual updos we see. We'll be honest, we aren't exactly sure how to go about getting this complex look but we loved it nonetheless!
