Miss USA Wants You To Wear Sunscreen!

Before she resigns her crown on June 2, Miss USA Alyssa Campanella came to our offices to have lunch with us (insert: squeal!). We chatted with the beauty queen about summer skin care and how to upkeep sexy, red hair.
Real Beauty: You have the best under eyes we've ever seenzero darkness or puffiness. What's your secret?
Alyssa Campanella: I dont do anything to my eyes. Its about what I do internally. Drink lots of water and make sure youre getting the right vitamins. Also, find a concealer that's similar to your skin tone, so when you're on the go, you can dab on a bit instead of putting on a full face of foundation.
RB: What are your beauty essentials?
AC: I always like to be wearing a moisturizer and SPF, even if it's only level 10 or 15. I find that SPF is really good for my skin. I dont know exactly what's in it, but it keeps me hydrated. Plus, in California the sun is strong, so you need to be protected at all times.
RB: Foundation, tinted moisturizer, or powder?
AC: I use tinted moisturizer instead of foundation, because I find [the latter] to be too heavy. The only time I use foundation and finishing powder is when I'm going to a really big event and will be photographed.
RB: What three products do you never leave home without?
AC: ChapStick, blush, and concealer.
RB: We're so jealous of your red hair! Is it natural?
AC: No! I'm naturally blonde!
RB: How do you keep your color so vibrant?
AC: I dye my hair every four to five weeks, so I use a Keratin-based shampoo to make sure it's getting the right nutrients. If you don't wear a hat every day living in California, your color can fadeparticularly redbecause it's absorbing so much light. I use actually Australian Gold Sheer Coverage Continuous Spray Sunscreen in my strands. It actually tames frizz, prevents my white scalp from burning, and acts like a coconut-scented hair perfume.
RB: Seriously, how do you get such bouncy waves in your hair?
AC: I discovered that the best curls are made by using a straightener.
RB: How do you keep your crown in place?
AC: Bobby pins! Lots and lots of bobby pins. It's fun to wear a crown, but it get a bit heavy. I love the design! The tiara is a smaller version, and I get to keep it.
RB: Has it ever fallen off?
AC: Not yet, and I dont plan on having it fall off any time soon.
