The best hair and makeup on TV and in the moviesExclusive! La Mer World Oceans Day Competition News

Attention, beauty junkies! La Mer is hosting a fab, new competition (complete with exotic prizes) that's tied to World Oceans Day, and we've got all the exclusive details below!
What's the Goal? In their long-running tradition of supporting World Oceans Day, the do-gooders at La Mer are launching a new campaign to raise awareness for the beauty and restorative power of the sea.
Why Are They Doing It? To explore the seas, of course! This year's campaign was specifically designed to encourage people to look harder and think more about the seas' many treasures. After all, the more you can appreciate the oceans' impact on our lives, the more inclined you'll be to help protect them.
Or, as aptly put by La Mer General Manager Sandra Main, "Our goal is to encourage people to experience just how renewing and revitalizing the oceans can be, and to share those experiences." She adds, "By underlining the very personal connection people have with the sea, we take a first step toward conservation and bringing people together to foster healthy oceans." Got it? Good.
Okay, So How the Contest Work? La Mer has teamed up with National Geographic to launch the "La Mer Oceans" photography competition. Applicants will be encouraged to submit images that capture the majesty of world's oceans as a source of inspiration through the photoswhether it be a secluded cove, a school of fish, or a seashell keepsake from an aquatic-centric vacay.
When Does It Start? From May 15 to July 31, applicants can submit up to three photographs at nationalgeographic.com/LaMerOceans. A National Geographic expert judge will then rate entries based on creativity (33%), photographic quality (33%), and effective illustration of the contest theme (34%). And, check out LaMer.com for more info!
And the Prize Is? A once-in-a-lifetime trip. The grand-prize winner will receive a National Geographic Expedition, led by an actual National Geographic photographer. The winner will get to explore the Northwest seaboard of North America and see sights like 'an unspoiled labyrinth of tiny islands, spectacular fjords, and abundant wildlife.' The 12-day, 11-night adventure includes round-trip airfare for two, hotel accommodations, and meals. PLUS, the winner will take home a year's supply of Crème de la Mer.
What if I Don't Win? Don't get too discouraged! Ten semi-finalists will receive $1000 worth of La Mer products, an ocean-themed National Geographic print, and a copy of Brian Skerry's world famous, Ocean Soul book. Winners will be announced in September 2012.
But even if you don't snag a prize, take heart. La Mer is releasing a limited-edition 100 ml World Oceans Day Crème in a special jar (see above) that you can scoop up to remember Oceans Day year-round. They will also make a $200,000 donation to Oceana to support their Habitat Protection Program, as well as other initiatives for ocean conservation.
And, as if that weren't enough, starting May 24, La Mer will be pledging $5 for every "like" they receive on their brand-new Facebook page up until World Oceans Day on June 8, with a maximum donation of $30,000.
Whew! So that about covers it. It's time to get involved. It makes us so happy at RB when our favorite brands set about making positive changes (beyond just making us look better!). And this initiative is a perfect example of how beauty companies can give back to the worldand by extension, all of us, too.

Miss USA Wants You To Wear Sunscreen!

Before she resigns her crown on June 2, Miss USA Alyssa Campanella came to our offices to have lunch with us (insert: squeal!). We chatted with the beauty queen about summer skin care and how to upkeep sexy, red hair.
Real Beauty: You have the best under eyes we've ever seenzero darkness or puffiness. What's your secret?
Alyssa Campanella: I dont do anything to my eyes. Its about what I do internally. Drink lots of water and make sure youre getting the right vitamins. Also, find a concealer that's similar to your skin tone, so when you're on the go, you can dab on a bit instead of putting on a full face of foundation.
