Sweet Feet

Fernando Milani

Applying a foot cream to your feet every night before bed makes a big difference in the appearance of corns on the toes. Try it for just one week. You'll see the difference.

If you don't mind the slightly damp feeling you get, you can also put on a pair of cotton socks at night after you have applied the cream. This is akin to a deep-conditioning treatment for your feet.

Wearing shoes that don't rub against the tops of the toes also makes a huge difference. Ultra-high, pointy-toed heels look sexy, but if they hurt your feet and leave you with a corn that lasts a lot longer than the one season the shoes were in, are they worth it?

If you have problems with very rough areas of the foot, consider using a rich foot cream or moisturizer that contains alpha hydroxy, beta hydroxy, or salicylic acids in the formula. These will exfoliate the surface of the skin while still providing moisture.

Cleaning your feet in the shower with an antibacterial soap will help combat foot odor. Make sure the soap contains an ingredient that kills odor-causing bacteria for up to six hours.

Avoid purchasing plastic shoes. Plastic does not allow the foot to breathe and can lead to awful, smelly feet. This is especially true in the summer months, since a lot of sandals are now being made with plastic instead of leather. Women think that since sandals have straps instead of fully encasing the feet, the smell won't be an issue. Wrong.

When it comes to the feet, adornment doesn't stop with the toenails. Feet are incredibly sexy and beautiful — be proud of a pair of pretty feet. Don't stop at toe rings, either. Experiment with menhdi (henna-based temporary tattoos), body paints to draw designs on your feet, adhesive body jewels, or even toenails with tiny designs. Especially if you work in an uptight, closed-toe-shoe corporate environment, where even the sight of a woman's toes is considered too casual, you have nothing to lose; the only people who will see your fabulous toenail designs are the people you choose to show them to outside the office.
