Dress Color: Blue

Light Skin Tones

Choose light eye shadow colors like white, gray, and taupe. (Try Dior 5-Colour Eyeshadow in 001, $58; sephora.com) Avoid blue, green, and pastels, because they'll wash out your eye color. For lips, choose a pale pink. (Try Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in Carnation, $8.99; ulta.com) Avoid darker shades like red or plum. Stick by the rule: A little color goes a long way on light skin tones.

Medium Skin Tones

Use beige and light brown eye shadows paired with a dark navy eyeliner. (Try Victoria's Secret Eyeshadow Quad in Sultry, $15 and Eye Liner in Midnight, $8; both available at victoriassecret.com) On lips, opt for a mauve or rose lipstick or lip gloss. (Try Chanel Glossimer in Futile, $27; chanel.com) Anything close to your own lip tone will be flattering, but try to avoid blue-based pinks.

Dark Skin Tones

On eyes, experiment with any of the following: rich gray, plums, and earth tones like brown and bronze. (Try the selection in the e.l.f. Smoky Eye Kit, $5; target.com) Avoid super-pale colors, because they will usually turn up frosty, and that's not the look you're going for here. For lips, pick a rich burgundy or plum lipstick. (Try Ramy Lipstick in Thrive, $17; ramy.com) Avoid pink and beige—you want to go darker to add some drama against such a neutral eye..
