BEST: Double-Winged Cat Eye

We can't get enough of this double-winged cat eye at Chado Ralph Rucci. It's simple, and the dual wings make you stop to take a second glance. To get this look, line the lower and upper rims on your lid with charcoal eyeliner. Next, start in the middle of your upper lid and create a second wing slightly above the lid, going just a touch farther out than the first wing. Smudge for an edgier look.

WORST: Two-Toned Makeup

Contrasting eyes and lips can be a huge success when done right, but these shades are too different to complement each other correctly. If you're going to try the two-toned trend, use a bright shade, like a pink lip with green eyeliner or shimmer shadow. If you prefer darker shades, go for a plum lip with silver shadow.

BEST: Sparkle Smoky Eye

The eyes at DVF absolutely glowed, thanks to an emerald-green shimmer underneath the models' smoky eyes. Apply your favorite shimmer stick on your lower lash line over your smoky eye for a subtle pop. Make sure the liner goes from the corner of your eye all the way to the end.

WORST: Bloodshot Eyes

These eyes remind us of waking up in college after pulling an all-nighter the day of a big exam. Unless it's a dramatic hazy eye you're going for, keep the under–eye area as natural as possible. Colors like this red will make you look washed out and tired…or like an actual walking zombie.

True Blood Lips

Sookie Stackhouse would definitely approve of these lips. Though this look may not be practical for everyday wear, these juicy, blood-red lips have us suddenly wanting to join the Underworld.

WORST: Smoky-Eye Overload

Another flashback to college, but this time, we're doing the walk of shame home from the frat house after a night of partying. If the top lid stood alone, this look would work, but the heavy liner on the lower lid takes it to another (scary) level. If you find that your eyeliner tends to drip, use a gel-based one and apply a thin layer of powder over it to keep migration at a minimum.

BEST: Feathered Brows

Long gone are perfectly sculpted, pencil-thin eyebrows. Instead, this season urges you to go for a bolder brow with feathered ends, like the models at Preen. During your next tweeze job, brush the ends of your brows out toward your nose to get this look.

WORST: Eye Accessories

Hair accessories? Yes. Eye accessories? Not so much, unless they are in the form of sunglasses. The upsetting part is that behind this mask we dig the teal lids, but you can hardly tell with the Zorro-esque leather bandanna across her face.

BEST: Plum Pouts

The verdict is in, and purple is the hot shade for fall. We saw it all over the runways for both fashion and beauty. Swap out your traditional red for a deeper, plum shade. For a middle-of-the-road option, go for berry.

WORST: Missing Your Eyes

Plus points for the creative ponytail, but the makeup has us wondering whether the artist kept dozing off backstage trying to finish these looks.
