Sara Hennessey Loves Christina Hendricks' Smoky Eye

In middle school, I learned I was an "autumn," which essentially means that I look best in warm-toned clothing and colors (in case the brown eyes and blonde hair wasn't enough of a tip-off). That said, my go-to smoky eye is a blend of brown and bronze shades, which I love because it can be as bold or as subtle as you want it to be.

• I start out by covering my entire lid, up past the crease, with Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion ($18; sephora.com). I love, love, love this primer! It makes any and all eye makeup stay put all day long.

• Next, I spread Revlon Illuminance Creme Shadow in Skinlights ($4.59; drugstore.com) over my whole lid.

• After that, I line my upper lash line with Physicians Formula Gel Cream Liner for Brown Eyes ($10.99; cvs.com. This comes with three stackable eyeliner pots; I use the brown liner if I'm going for a more subtle look, or black if I want something more dramatic. I love using creme eyeliner, because it doesn't smear or smudge as easily. I tend to line the outer edges of my lash line more heavily, and I use a smudger to blend the liner upwards so that it's softer and smokier (you can find one on ulta.com).

• Next, I use my Pixi Softly Smoky Eyes palette (discontinued, but target.com has a similar one for $30) to make the real magic happen. I adore this palette because it has loads of gold-toned shadows, from a light shadow with a hint of peach sparkle, to a deep, midnight black shadow. I use the darkest brown tone in my crease and the lighter brown-bronze hue over the creme shadow, all over my lid. This powder shadow helps keep the creme shadow in place and really brings all the other colors together. I go over my creme eyeliner with the black shadow, just to make the whole look more cohesive and smoky.

• I finish off this look with my La Cross Eyelash Curler ($5.49; cvs.com) and a couple of swipes of black DiorShow Mascara ($24; sephora.com). I've recently become a DiorShow-convert; it has the most luxurious brush, and it makes my lashes look so long and full!
