20s: SHOW SOME SKIN
Warm weather means a closet stocked with miniskirts and microshorts, but if your legs aren't quite ready for their big reveal, self-tanner is a great quick fix. "Always work tanner into your legs in a circular motion, since rubbing it up and down creates streaks," instructs Victoria's Secret makeup artist Linda Hay. Try Clarins Delicious Self Tanning Cream (above, $40), which has a slightly chocolaty scent from cocoa extract in the formula.

30s: SAVE TIME WITH A SPRAY
If you're juggling a hectic life and don't have time to wait around for self-tanner to dry, an aerosol bronzer gives the same effect without the wait. Mist your face, arms, and décolleté with Dior Bronze Sun Powder Spray (right, $60). Because it doesn't contain any tanner, your newfound nutty color easily rinses away at the end of the day. "If you're trying to cover discoloration, pick a slightly darker shade," suggests Jamie Ahn, owner of Townhouse Spa in New York City.

40s: GET A FLAWLESS FACE
If you're looking to add color to your face, experts recommend tinted at-home tanners so you can see where it's going. Lancôme Flash Bronzer Tinted Self-Tanning Face Lotion (right, $27) is a shimmering product that's bronze in color, so you won't miss a spot. "If you have fears about using tanner, mix it with some moisturizer in your palms before applying," says Hay. For the most natural look, don't forget to use some on your jawline and neck.

50s: KEEP COLOR NATURAL
"At this age, you want to have a healthy bronzed look rather than a dark, dramatic tan," says Ahn. Try a self-tanning moisturizer with a low level of DHA (the most common tanning ingredient), which you can apply daily. "For the best results, skip applying it to bony areas like knees and elbows every third day," recommends Hay. Try Neutrogena Color Boosting Sunblock SPF 30 ($9.99), which boasts broad-spectrum sunscreen. And when using tanners like this that build color over time, you needn't worry if your technique isn't painstakingly perfect.

60s: ALWAYS EXFOLIATE
Postmenopausal women often experience a loss of moisture in their skin, which can result in blotchy, uneven results when dry spots absorb too much sunless tanner. "The secret to an even tan is exfoliation," says Hay. Prep skin with a loofah or scrub, paying special attention to tricky areas like knees and elbows. Then follow with a hydrating product that has just a touch of DHA, like Victoria's Secret Bare Bronze Daily Glow Moisturizer ($16). If your skin is really parched, skip tanner altogether and opt for a cream bronzer like Yves Saint Laurent Voile de Soleil, (above, $38).The Best Spring Beauty Products & Hairstyles
70+: SHOW OFF A SUBTLE GLOW
"If you use products containing glycolic acid or a retinol in your routine, stay away from self-tanner," says Ahn. Pick a powder bronzer instead, which will allow you to layer color for a naturally sun-kissed look rather than a full-blown tan. Dust Clinique Shimmering Tones Powder Quad in Golden Bronze (left, $28.50) across cheekbones and forehead - places where the sun hits naturally.
