Runway the "Real" Way: Alice + Olivia Fall 2012

1. Goth can be glamorous. Stacey Bendet is the master of party clothes, and we loved this season's theme: a haunted house dinner soiree. Instead of pairing her flamboyant frocks, heavy sequins, and leather accents with the usual bold red lips and a flirty eyes, she took a beauty risk by doing vampy peepers and pouts. It came across as sexy, rather than scary.

2. A horizontal part creates a perfect chignon. Anthony Cole for Sebastian Professional divided the models' hair in the back of their heads horizontally. He looped the bottom half into a low bun, pulling pieces out to give it a messy-cool look. Then, he parted the top section down the middle and wrapped each side around the bun. This created a smooth, loose drape over the hairline.

3. Solid is the new smoky eye. Sarah Lucero for Stila Cosmetics created a sharp cat eye by using Stila Smudge Crayon to completely encase the eye with a black wing. She even filled in the inner-eye rim with a black line, leaving no light space. This is opposite of the well-blended smoky eye we're used to.

4. There are lipstick levels. To intensify the models' lips, Lucero recommends mixing a dark lipstick with a brown Stila Smudge Pot. Or you can take the opposite route and ease into the trend by starting with a lip stain.

5. Get spangly, party-ready nails in five minutes flat. Try pre-cut nail strips to achieve decorated paws in a flash. Erik Soto used Trend Tips by Sephora OPI in silver and black/gold glitter on the model's hands. He simply placed the pre-cut strips on their nails, rubbed them with his fingers to warm them up (you can also use a blow-dryer), and filed off the excess residue. This product wears like nail polish and can be removed with acetone.
