Minka Kelly On Cancer, Cooking, and Date-Night Beauty!

Last night, Minka Kelly, dressed in a stunning Diane von Furstenberg gown, walked in the 2012 Red Dress Collection Fashion Show. It is sponsored by Diet Coke and The Heart Truth campaign, which raises awareness about women's heart disease. But not only is it American Heart Month, it's also almost Valentine's Day. We figured Kelly (who has been placed on Esquire's Sexiest Women Alive list) would have a few tips on how to turn your man on come February 14th.
Real Beauty: How did you get involved with this cause?
Minka Kelly: Before this, I didnt know that heart disease is the number one killer of women. I feel like it's important to use my voice to raise awareness. Women need to be aware of the danger and proactive about iteven if it means getting on the Treadmill one extra time a week or eating a bit healthier.
RB: Youre also really involved with cancer awareness, right?
MK: I'm an ambassador for Stand Up To Cancer. I lost my mother to cancer, so it's very close to me. People should test themselves and be conscious of their bodies. My mom neglected her body and ignored the signs and symptoms. I lost her to colon cancer, which is very preventable and detachable. If I she had heard someone talking about this, maybe she would have gone to the doctor sooner, and it would have saved her life.
RB: Thanks for sharing that. On to some lighter topics, what is your go-to date-night beauty look?
MK: Usually, I say less is more. But sometimesdepending on my moodmore is more. I'm not the best at doing my own makeup, so I keep it pretty simple. As long as I have an eyelash curler, mascara, and Aquaphor Lip Repair balm, Im good to go. I also like Dior Dior Addict Lip Glow. It brings out the natural rosiness in your lips, so it's the perfect shade of pink-red.
RB: What about a great date-night hairstyle?
MK: My hair ends up in a ponytail most of the time, because I have so much of it, and it's a lot of work to style. But if I wear it down, I'll run a curling iron through it quickly. I think the less done your hair looks, the better.
RB: Do you have a signature scent?
MK: Yes. As of late, it's Le Labo Santal. It's the perfect mix of earthy and floral.
RB: Are there any body products you can't live without?
MK: Every day, I slather my entire body with Kiehl's Creme de la Creme de Corps, and each morning and night, I use eye cream from Sisley. I've been doing that since I was a teenager. I think moisturizing is really important.
RB: Do you have any outfit ideas?
MK: As long as I'm comfortable, I feel put together. I think a pretty, flowing dress with a blazer and cute, funky shoes always works. looking classy, ladylike, and elegant is sexy.
RB: How will you be spending your V-Day?
MK: I'll be at home cooking to stay out of all of the madness. My speciality is lasagna, and my secret ingredient is spicy Italian sausage.
RB: What is your favorite date activity?
MK: I really enjoy listening to live music!
RB: What makes you feel sexy?
MK: I feel the sexiest after a good workout with my trainer. I'm all sweaty and my cheeks are flushed from my heart rate being up for the past hour.
RB: How do you stay in shape?
MK: I do Vinyasa yoga every day and meet with my trainer, Gunnar Peterson, a few times a week for circuit weight training.
RB: Will we be seeing you at Fashion Week?
MK: I'm going to Marchesa and Oscar de la Renta.
