When you get healthier, you become kinder to yourself and less apt to engage in negative self-talk, like You're lazy or You're fat. Plus, feeling good about yourself improves your relationships, because you have a better relationship with yourself. You feel like you can handle everything that comes your way because you have the energy and confidence to do it.
Why do so many women have trouble making their health a priority?
Some women think that other things count more. We forget that our health affects everyone around us. Taking care of your body gives you endurance to manage the rest of your life. When faced with a choice, think about how good you'll feel if you choose to be healthy. No one says, "I wish I hadn't exercised." Make the decision to respect yourself.
What would you recommend if I've tried and failed to be healthy before?
Be honest about what went wrong and find the lesson there. People often find they were too externally focused; they give up if they're not losing weight. Focus on how you feel instead of what you see. Do you have more energy? Are you sleeping better? Remember, health has no finish line. Every moment is another chance to make a better choice.
