I found that the most difficult part of the day was the shot of chlorophyll. Luckily I went to the bathroom shortly after having the first one on the first day. My lips, teeth and tongue were dark green. I had to brush my teeth and rub my lips with a paper towel to remove the stains.
Once that was out of the way, the rest of the day was fairly easy. I was constantly consuming something, so I never felt deprived or hungry. However, I really missed the ritual of eating: My morning coffee, an excuse to leave my desk midday for lunch, and going home to a nice meal. Without preparing and eating dinner, I felt like I had a lot of extra time at night.
I had no trouble getting up at 6 a.m., but definitely had trouble staying awake until my normal bedtime (10:30 p.m.). On the first night I was ready to zonk out 9 p.m. I had a little more energy on the second and third days.
Morning: I felt fine, but I was craving coffee and missing the morning breakfast ritual. The green apple juice was refreshing and delicious.
Noon: One of the juices spilled in the fridge, so I felt a little deprived. Once I actually tried the spinach, cucumber, and celery juice, I thought the spillage was perhaps more lucky than not. I felt lightheaded and had trouble focusing.
3 p.m.: Tired and grumpy. Enjoyed the Master Tonic: Yacon Syrup, cayenne pepper, and lemon juice, which tasted a bit like tart lemonade.
"Dinner": Not hungry, but extremely tired. I was looking forward to the coconut water, but found it to be salty and savorybut not in a good way.
Before bed: Was ready to sleep by 7 p.m., but held out until 9 p.m. Had a headache all day.
Morning: Woke up feeling better. Feeling a little hungry, but I have more energy than the day before. Today I'm loving the pear juice.
Noon: A little less focused than usual, but better than day 1.
3 p.m.: I'm tired of consuming liquid beverages and I wish I could sneak away for a snack. My stomach is rumbling with activity after the lemon, carrot, spinach, cucumber, and celery juice.
"Dinner": Not a fan of this juice: Liquid kale, spinach, swiss chard, cucumber and celery, parsley, and beet.
Before bed: Definitely have more energy than this time yesterday. I had a mild headache and hit the sheets at about 10 p.m.
Morning: After the shot of chlorophyll, I was very excited to have plain old orange juice.
Noon: The leafy green concoction didn't seem as repulsive on day 3. My tastebuds must be getting used to this.
3 p.m.: Very busy at work, so no time for a slump! Maybe that's the key: Keeping busy so you won't miss eating!
"Dinner": I have a cucumber juice for dinner; somehow less refreshing than eating a cucumber. Something about drinking all this juice makes me very thirsty for water.
Before bed: Some might argue that the elation is the purity of the cleanse, but I think it's excitement for real food and beverages tomorrow!
Breaking the Cleanse
I eased back into daily life by not having coffee the first two days, plus eating light and mostly vegan. By the weekend I was back to coffee, wine, and my typical foods (mostly vegetables and whole grains). I also went cross-country skiing for two days and had plenty of energy!
I ended up losing 4.5 pounds at the end of the cleanse, and I lost one inch around my waist. On a scale from 1 to 5, I'd give it a 3. I'm not sure how long-lasting the results will be, but I would definitely consider doing a cleanse like this again.
