organic avenue love deep cleanse

Tester 1: Anny, 35

You start with one shot of chlorophyll in the morning, followed by six 16oz bottles of fresh, organic fruit and vegetable juices. A juice was consumed every couple of hours with about 8oz of water in between.

Juice Review

chlorophyll Shot: One word—ugh. I had to dilute it with water and hold my nose in order to get it down.

Apple Juice: It tasted like organic all-natural apple juice or homemade cider. Yum!

Young Love (spinach, cucumber, celery): Tastes like I am eating grass, but for some reason I keep smelling jelly donuts every time I take a sip.

Master Tonic (yacon syrup, cayenne pepper, lemon juice): It tastes like I ran out of ingredients while making lemonade. It's a bit sour, but not too bad.

Veggie Vibe (lemon, carrot, spinach, cucumber, celery, parsley, beet): It tastes like a version of V8. It's not bad, and I was able to finish it pretty quickly.

Mello Love (spinach, cucumber, celery, romaine, parsley, Himalayan salt): Upon first sip, It tastes like flavored water, but there's this unique after taste. I'll admit that it made me gag, and I had to chug in order to finish it.

Coconut Water: My favorite! I don't know if this was because I found something I liked, but I had to pace myself because it was so yummy. I could drink this all day.

DAY 1

Morning: Very exhausted. I have absolutely no energy.

Noon: A bit hungry. Definitely craving sushi.

3 p.m.: No energy. Having a hard time focusing. I miss chewing. I can't stop going the bathroom! My stomach sounds as if it's having its own concert. It brings a whole new expression to being "full of hot air"! I'm also freezing.

"Dinner": So exhausted, absolutely no energy left. I was getting a little concerned that I would pass out on my way home from lack of energy. I actually got off at the wrong subway stop, so I guess you could say I'm a bit disoriented! But I have noticed that I now have a heightened sense of smell. Everything is amplified.

Before bed: People have told me that I'm going to feel agitated while on a detox, but to tell the truth, I'm too tired to feel cranky. I pass out at 8:30.

DAY 2

Morning: Still tired. Had a hard time getting out of bed but once I was out, I was okay. I did wake up with a sore throat, but I'm not sure if it's residual from the cold I'm getting over or from the being freezing all day yesterday. Not hungry, but definitely still have cravings. I dream of bagels. Mind you, I am not normally a bagel eater, but that is what I am fixated on.

Noon: A bit hungry, but not as bad as the day before. I'm finding that I keep asking people, "Am I slurring?" I feel like I am having a hard time getting the words out of my mouth—like they are too heavy and my focus is non existent. If someone had asked me to do something that requires analysis, I would probably look at them like they have four heads.

3 p.m.: A bit tired, but not as bad as the day before. I'm also not as lightheaded. I'm still making frequent trips to the bathroom.

"Dinner": My husband ate macaroni and cheese in front of me, and I did not bash his head in. I'm very surprised at my willpower, and this is proof that this cleanse isn't so bad! I'm feeling a bit lighter than yesterday.

Before bed: Passed out at 9:30. Had a slight headache before getting to bed. But I'm sleeping so well—like the dead!

DAY 3

Morning: I had a hard time getting up this morning, but once I was up, I was up. I woke up with a really bad headache that forced me to take a Motrin to make it go away. I am also very sniffly, so I am wondering if my cold is coming back. Oh and I want a bagel so badly I can smell it.

Noon: Not hungry, but still have the cravings. I already feel like I'm starting to crash!

3 p.m.: Feeling very tired. Can't wait to go home! I also can't shake this headache. Maybe it's because I'm dehydrated? I drank a lot of water though.

"Dinner": I never made it to dinner. I got home at 7 p.m. and passed out by 7:30 p.m.

Before bed: As noted above, I was asleep by 7:30 pm. I had absolutely no energy by the time I got home. I think I was also looking forward to waking up and being able to eat. So maybe falling asleep earlier was a good thing!

Breaking the Cleanse

Morning: I actually feel pretty good this morning—better than I have felt in the past three days. I am very alert, I have energy, and my brain does not feel foggy. I definitely would love to feel like this every morning. But I did have my bagel this morning, and it felt like a brick in my stomach. Let's just say that I won't be craving a bagel anytime soon.

Noon: Surprisingly not really hungry. I picked up some fruit and I have been munching on it all morning. I feel much more energetic today and very focused.

3 p.m.: Feeling a bit tired but definitely not as bad as the other days. I did start to feel a bit dizzy at one point so I ate a handful of pretzels. So far my stomach has been okay, but I am being very careful of what I eat.

Dinner: I met some friends for dinner and I had soup and a handful of tortilla chips. I was pretty full and it did not upset my stomach that much.

Before bed: I'm starting to crash a little, but considering I actually did not get home until close to 11 p.m., this is an improvement from the last three days.

Overall

Ironically, I think I could do this for more than the scheduled three days. I think the next time I cleanse, I'll choose the 5-day plan and see how I do on that! Most of the juices tasted fine, and throughout I was never actually ravenous or hungry—I just missed chewing and had weird cravings along the way. The chlorophyll shot and I were clearly not friends, and I'd be fine if I never had to see or smell it again!
