My husband and I love your diet! For over two months, we were losing weight consistently on it. (So far, we've both lost 26 pounds.) But now, we've both hit a plateau. How can we jump-start ourselves and get going again? Thanks for any help you can give us.Janice Gaston Leesburg, OH
I'm thrilled to hear that you and your husband like the diet. Losing 26 pounds is very impressive, so don't be too hard on yourselves! But I understand: The plateau you're experiencing is frustrating (and common with diets). Here are a few ways to deal with it:
Ride it out. Maintain that weight loss for another month or two, carefully watching the scale. Sometimes the body needs this catch-up period to get metabolism revved up again.
Increase exercise. Do it in the most painless way possible: Put an exercise bike in front of the TV, take more short walks daily or go to the gym an extra day a week.
Keep a food diary. Write down everything you eat for four days two workdays and two weekend days. See if and when you might be overeating. Make photocopies of the blank food diaries in Appendix 3 of The Supermarket Diet or click here to print them out from GoodHousekeeping.com.
