The Obvious

Short hair is a no-brainer during hot summer months and is a breeze to manage — you just wake up and go.

The Ballerina Bun

Late for a presentation? No problem. This sophisticated updo is easy to achieve:

Step 1: Brush hair and pull into a high ponytail on top of your head.

Step 2: Secure with an elastic or a scrunchie.

Step 3: Twist the tail around the hair tie and secure with a few bobby pins.

The Braid

Although we love Lauren Conrad's version too, Gwyneth Paltrow's style not only keeps her hair out of her face but off her neck as well.

The Ponytail

Jennifer Hudson amplifies an otherwise boring ponytail with mega-blunt bangs. This style works well when you want to look chic without a ton of effort. Want to bang it out without the long-term commitment? Try ones that clip in.

The Bedhead

This style actually requires a full eight hours to achieve. First, go to bed. Then, wake up, take a quarter-sized amount of holding gel (we love Pantene Classic Style Gel Total Control, $3.99; drugstore.com in your hands, rub together, and scrunch your hair ends to roots. This works best with those blessed with naturally wavy or straight hair.

The Accessory

Whether you're on vacation or running late, take a hair cue from ScarJo — headbands are an easy hot-weather accessory to keep your hair off of your face. We suggest choosing one that's no more than a quarter-of-an-inch thick so you don't end up looking like you're in a commercial for face cleansers.

The Messy Updo

We love that this style takes seconds to get, yet looks like you had a team of stylists doting on you for hours. To get this wake-up-and-go style, part hair down the middle with a comb without brushing through. Next, loosely take the last three inches of hair (last five inches for longer tresses) and twist twice. Finally, wrap the ends into a very loose bun and secure at the nape of your neck with a few bobby pins, or a great statement barrette.

The Side Bun

Sure, pulling your second-day hair into a bun seems like an obvious choice, but this side style is so chic it was the perfect pick for Elizabeth Reaser on the red carpet. The trick to this style is to pull the ends of your hair through the bun before pinning into place.

Editor's tip: To trim your own bangs, start with dry hair, twist the section tight, and snip right at the bridge of your nose where it meets your forehead.

The Princess

This style works great for all hair types (straight to curly) — the curlier your hair, the more romantic it will look. First, take the front section of your hair and comb it back to about the middle of your scalp; secure with two crisscrossed bobby pins. Then, gather your hair into a low ponytail at the nape of your neck and pull your ends through until they create a loop. Secure any flyaway ends with a bobby pin.

The Fly(aways) Girl

This hairstyle has the ability to look like you've just emerged from the gym, so be sure to pair this with great earrings and a killer dress. Start by loosely parting your hair down the middle, but not so you see a severe part line. Then, bring your hair into a loose mid-rise bun. Finally, pull a few pieces (those baby hairs you hate so much) out around your face. Finish with a light-hold hair spray.

The Dominatrix

To get Blake Lively's messy braid (sans extensions), you'll need to start with a high ponytail. Use pomade or a light-hold hair spray to ensure that the front of your hair lays smooth. Then, loosely braid your hair down to the end. Before securing with an elastic, pull the sections taught like you would a ponytail that's beginning to fall. Then, in just a few places, pick some hair out of the braid (not all the way) so it appears messy.

Shimmer to Look Slimmer

Don't let your face have all the fun. Use shimmering powders and creams to accent your collarbone and shoulders. Highlighting the curvature of your bone structure will also have a slimming effect.

The Side Pony

This is a great alternative to the regular ponytail, whether you part your hair down the middle or to the side. Tip: Be sure to have the ponytail fall on the same side as your part. Gather your hair, twist it just behind your ear, and secure with a clip or hair tie.
