Backstage Report: Prabal Gurung Fall 2012

The Inspiration: It was birds of paradise meets Avatar at fashion-fave, Prabal Gurung's, fall show. Electric shades of blue highlighted models' eyes as sent his girls down the catwalk in a range of strong, sexy, and some seriously structured designs.
Makeup: Charlotte Tilbury, using MAC products, created the fanciful look seen here. Keeping the skin as bare as possible, she applied teal hues to models' lids using diagonal brush strokes, "to mimic the feather pattern of a bird," she explained. The cream shadows, which won't be available until fall 2012, were blended around the entire eye area and up into the brow bone. A new sculpting product that will be out later this year was also used to contour cheekbones.
Hair: Following Gurung's directive to stay away from distracting hair, Paul Hanlon, using TIGI Catwalk products, created silky manes that were inspired by both Asia and "girls in teenage horror movies, like Sissy Spacek." To achieve this look, he flat ironed hair and used Your Highness Weightless Shine Spray to add a sleek finish to the overall look.
Nails: Gurung worked with Sally Hansen and celeb manicurist Jin Soon Choi to create four custom colors for this show. The colors played off of the contrast between light and dark. If the girls were wearing deeper hues, their nail color was black or blue. If their outfits had hints of lighter tones, the Sally Hansen team stuck to warm metallic shades and white.
